Christmas Holiday
Schedule of Events at TCM
The Contemporary Museum’s schedule of
Christmas programs and special offers
include Expression Sessions, TCM
Contemporary Cash membership program,
military family outreach, and docent-guided
tours. Most programs are free with museum
entry and feature artists and special guest
art educators.
Holiday Hours:
The Contemporary Museum galleries at
Makiki Heights and First Hawaiian Center
will be closed on Thanksgiving Day,
Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day. Public
programs are as follows:
Special Two-Part Holiday Expression
Session:
Part One: Saturday, November 7, 10:30-12
noon; and Part Two: Saturday, December 5,
10:30-12 noon; Reservations required: (808)
235-5230; Supply Fee: $12 each session ($7
for TCM Members);
Holiday cheer and starts right here on
Saturday, November 7, with the making of
magical Christmas trees and ornaments in a
two-part Expression Session program.
Art educator, Cheri Keefer, teaches children
how to sculpt trees and ornaments out of
clay on November 7. Then the work is dried
and kiln fired. The children return on
December 5 to paint and decorate their
holiday trees and ornaments. Call (808)

SPECIAL OFFERS:
Military Family Outreach at TCM – Free
Entry for Military – sponsored in part by
BAE Systems & BOUTIKI
This special outreach program honors the
sacrifices and service of our retired,
reserve and active duty military members and
their families. With military ID, military
members and their families will be admitted
free of charge throughout the year. This
program is ongoing throughout 2009. This
outreach is made possible by support from
BAE Systems, the premier global defense,
security, and aerospace company, and
BOUTIKI, a not-for-profit, volunteer-run
gift shop located on the Pearl Harbor Navy
Base.

Tuesdays-Sundays at 1:30 p.m. -
Docent-Guided Gallery Tours
No reservations are necessary for this
walk-in tour (unless you are bringing a
large group of 10 or more). Led by docents
who have completed TCM’s seven-month docent
training course, this tour offers lively and
interesting discussions about works on view
and current exhibitions in TCM’s Makiki
Heights galleries. Free with museum entry.
Nu’umealani Garden Tours – By
Advance Reservation Only – (808) 237-5217;

Enjoy docent-guided tours of TCM’s
spectacular “heavenly terraces” first
created by the Rev. K. H. Inagaki between
1928 and 1941. Nu’umealani Garden won the
American Society of Landscape Architects
prestigious Millennium Medallion for
preservation in 2000, and was called a
“cathedral of meditation” by The New York
Times. Stroll the gardens, learn about
the plants, and enjoy the impressive views.
These tours are free with museum entry.
The Contemporary Museum at First Hawaiian
Center:
December 4, 2009, 7-9 p.m. - First
Fridays at First Hawaiian Center; 7:30
p.m. Artist Talk; Free
Start your Chinatown art walkabout at the
First Hawaiian Center, the downtown home of
TCM’s exhibition programs exclusively
featuring Hawaii’s own established and
emerging artists. At 7:30 p.m. a special
program featuring a Hawaii artist will be
presented. Entry is free and light
refreshments are served, while supplies
last.
December 17, 2009 - Noon – FHC Gallery
Talk and Exhibition Tour – Free
These lunch-hour docent-guided tours are
presented at the third Thursdays of every
month, when exhibitions are on view, and are
free for everyone. Meet in the First
Hawaiian Bank lobby at noon. No advance
reservations are necessary. TCM at FHC
exhibitions are always free to the public
and feature the new work of Hawaii’s own
regional artists. FHC exhibitions are
coordinated by Curator of Exhibitions, Inger
Tully.
TCM at First Hawaiian Center Exhibition:
Hiroki, Setsuko and Miho Morinoue
– on view through February 19, 2010
The Morinoue family of
artists from the Big Island will be featured
in an exhibition of their new works. Living
and working out of their studios in Holualoa,
married couple Hiroki and Setsuko, and their
daughter Miho, create work that is
continuously inspired by each other and by
their island surroundings. The range of work
planned for this presentation includes
prints, sculptures, drawings, paintings, and
ceramics.
