Reservations are required and may be made by calling (808) 237-5230 or email education@tcmhi.org.  This month the theme is Newspaper and Scotch Tape:  Making art with everyday materials. The AV Club of Honolulu is a collective of Hawaii artists collaborating to blur boundaries. Members include Duncan Dempster, Vince Hazen, Alan Konishi, Mat Kubo, and Michael Sweitzer.  Previous projects have included The Geta Project, Print Ball, Tour de Prints, Cat Walk, and Robot Tea Party. The performance is free with museum entry.

June 18, 2009 - Noon - FHC Gallery Talk and Exhibition Tour - Free
These lunch-hour docent-guided tours are presented at the third Thursdays of every month, when exhibitions are on view, and are free for everyone.  Meet in the First Hawaiian Bank lobby at noon. No advance reservations are necessary. TCM at FHC exhibitions are always free to the public and feature the new work of Hawaii's own regional artists.  FHC exhibitions are coordinated by Curator of Exhibitions, Inger Tully.
FHC EXHIBITION OPENING:

Schaefer Portrait Challenge - Opening May 29 through September 11 at TCM at FHC:
The Schaefer Portrait Challenge was first held in 2003 in Maui.  The triennial exhibition was inspired by the acclaimed Archibald Prize portrait competition held in Australia.  The exhibition was organized and presented by the Maui Arts & Cultural Center, and has become a showcase of outstanding Hawaii artists and a chronicle of the changing face of Hawaii. The selected portraits include a broad range of interpretation and styles-from representational to experimental in drawing, painting, and sculpture-all of which reveal the rewards of observation and the essence of human connections. Portrait subjects include people of all ages who represent the multicultural profile of Hawaii and their compelling stories, seen through the artists' portrayals. This year's entries include 15 self-portraits.
