Common Sense
December 18, 2001 - May 19, 2002
Common Sense is a portfolio exchange between printmakers from Honolulu and Kona. Kona Participants are Lynn Capell, Denis Keogh, Irene Laudan, Andrea Pro, Jeera Rattanangkoon, Susanne St. John, Tomas Villa and Setsuko Watanabe. Kona resident Hiroki Morinoue, who suggested the exchange theme, also produced covers for all of the portfolios. Participants from Honolulu are Donna Broder, Duncan Dempster, HanSolo, Keiko Kamata, Deb Nehmad, Mari Sakamoto and Laura Smith.
The print exchange challenged participating artists to focus on individual interpretation of the theme while working within their discipline and given criteria. Many of the prints that emerged from this process are intellectual and strongly utilize symbols, qualities that should make the exhibition challenging to viewers as well.
Following its presentation at TCM, the portfolio will travel to Holualoa on the Big Island. This exhibition will coordinate with the opening of Holualoa Foundation's new studio center.
