Food for Thought
October 8, 2002 - February 2, 2003
Food for Thought, a group invitational exhibition, features the work of fourteen local artists, many of whom have shown together previously in Honolulu as members of the artists’ collective "Special Prescription." The original collective had its first show together at Café Che Pasta in Honolulu, and continued to exhibit there throughout the year 2000. Yet the exhibitions presented at that venue never acknowledged location as part of their theme.
For the Food for Thought exhibition, the artists were invited to exhibit work specifically done with the café atmosphere in mind. The resulting works are richly diverse, including both images of food and actual food products, as well as conceptual and symbolic imagery. All of the works promise to alter the café experience for the museum visitor, stimulating visitors’ imaginations just as their appetites are stimulated by the café fare.
Exhibiting artists are Rona M. Awber, Cole Chetney, Dana Forsberg, Joseph Graziano, Kristie Higa, Ryan Higa, Tae Kitakata, Katherine Love, Nicole Morita, Masako Nitz, Koi Ozu, Joshua Tollefson, Robyn Valorose and Magnus Weighton.
