SEVEN: II
The Contemporary Cafˇ will host the second exhibition by "Seven", a group of Honolulu women painters. Responding to a growing desire to see more exhibitions in Hawai'i dedicated to painting and drawing, Nadine Ferraro, Kloe Kang, Karen Lee, Birgitta Leitner, Katherine Love, Mary Mitsuda, and Yida Wang formed as a group in early 2003. The members met while attending the University of Hawai'i at Manoa and while participating in the Honolulu art scene. Although the members work individually and in varied styles and materials, their artwork is threaded by a common tendency to be psychologically provocative, mentally engaging, and visually compelling.
This, their second exhibition, simply titled "II", provides another opportunity to display their most recent works. Responding to considerations of the cafˇ space and to the number "2", members were encouraged to create two pieces each for this exhibition, as well as to consider the theme of duality within the works.
