CONVERSATION HEARTS
February 5 - April 13, 2008
The Contemporary Museum Café gallery reprises its popular valentine-themed exhibition in 2008. This year’s exhibition, titled Conversation Hearts features the work of ten Hawaii artists: Mimi Bergstrom, A. Kimberlin Blackburn, Bradley Capello, Andrew Catanzariti, Vince Hazen, Rebecca Horne, Jackie Mild-Lau, Rujunko Pugh, San Shoppell, and John Wesolosky.
Each artist was asked to create one piece for the exhibition that incorporated elements from, interpretations of, or was inspired by the Valentine’s Day pastel, heart-shaped candy with the quirky sayings. According to the NECCO website, “Conversation Hearts have been used in various ingenious ways over the yearsto propose marriage, to teach children statistics and reading, to decorate cakes, and as borders for frames.” The exhibited works range from the lighthearted and playful to thought-provoking responses on personal and political obsessions.
