Summer Art Workshops for Children

The Contemporary Museum has expanded our popular children’s workshops series for summer 2007. Workshops are available for one, two, three, and four days for specific age groups. Advance reservations and payment required. To reserve your spot call Tegan Hammond at (808) 237 - 5230.

Cost: One-day workshops $15 member, $20 non-members / two-day workshops $30 members, $35 non-members / three-day $45 member, $50 non-member / four-day workshops $60 members, $65 non-members.

Time: All workshops are from 2pm - 4 pm.


June 21 & June 22, Thursday & Friday
The Contemporary Landscape
Ages 9 – 12, Instructor: Quala Lynn Young
Young artists will use a variety of media to create landscape images inspired by contemporary artists and the TCM grounds.

July 6, Friday
Art on the Move
Ages 5 – 8, Instructor: Stephanie Chang
Students will learn about shape, form and sculpture through creative movement and a sculpture project.

Surrealist Collage
Ages 9 – 12, Instructor: Andrew Rose
Students will cut, juxtapose and paste magazine and newspaper images in this workshop inspired by the work of influential artists Salvador Dali, Max Ernst, and Frida Kahlo.

July 17 – 20, Tuesday - Friday
Monoprint Kites
Ages 5 – 8 Instructor: Abigail Romanchak
Using mono-print techniques students will create their own colorful designs that will be applied to a hand made kite (it really flies!) to take home.

Mask Making
Ages 9 – 12 Instructor: Quala Lynn Young
Students will use their own face to mold an individual mask they will decorate to express their own imagination and individuality.

July 24 – 26, Tuesday - Thursday
Print Fantastic
Ages 5 – 8, Instructor: Andrew Rose
Inspired by work from the Artists of Nineteen Going on Twenty, students will explore block printing, painting, pattern, design and color using acrylics.

July 24 – 27, Tuesday - Friday
Mix it Up!
Ages 9 – 12, Instructor Quala Lynn Young
In this fun class, students will create images of their own choosing by cutting, collaging, rubbing and printing.

August 2- 3, Thursday & Friday
Assemblage Sculpture
Ages 5 – 12, Instructor Quala Lynn Young
Using a variety of materials young artists will create whimsical sculptures inspired by famous artists of our time.

Red or Blue?
Ages 5 – 8, Instructor: Andrew Rose
After learning about the work of artists Sam Francis, Yves Klein, Ellsworth Kelly, and Pablo Picasso, students will create their own red and blue-themed paintings using acrylics.

August 7 – 8, Tuesday & Wednesday
The Art of Comics
Ages 13 – 16, Instructor: David Goldberg
Using image-editing technologies students will complete an actual manga that they will print and take home at the conclusion of the workshop.August 10, Friday
