Mapped
A group exhibition of nine artists using maps as inspiration for their work. The resulting images are richly layered, unique perspectives on understanding and coming to terms with ones place in the world. The exhibition includes work in a range of media including digital images, drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, fiber, and mixed media. The participating artists are Gaye Chan, Vincent Goudreau, Wendy Kawabata, Jinja Kim, Joyce Kozloff, Maya Portner, Abigail Lee Kahilikia Romanchak, Laura Smith, and Lori Uyehara.
Boyd Sugiki: Elements
Glass artist Boyd Sugiki’s recent series, Elements, was inspired by the cityscape that surrounded him during recent travels to Istanbul, Turkey. The glass bottles created upon his return home, echo the architectural skylines and silhouettes of the mosques and minarets he observed. Grouped together, the glass forms that reach over four feet tall suggest a compelling urban landscape.
First Fridays: May 2, 2008.
7:00pm 9:00pm
Experience an evening of poems, stories and music inspired by the exhibition Mapped, performed by Cheryl Treiber-Kawaoka and James McCarthy.
