After receiving her BA in Philosophy from Yale University, Maggie
Taylor went on to earn her MFA in Photography from the University
of Florida in 1987. She has exhibited extensively in solo and group
exhibitions throughout the United States, and currently lives and
works in Gainesville, Florida with her husband, the photographer
Jerry Uelsmann.
Taylor’s work exists somewhere between photography and painting,
making extensive use of digital imaging technology to create virtually
seamless fusions of found images and objects, most of which are
scanned as part of the process of image development. Taylor seldom
uses a camera, and then only for things too large to fit on her
scanner. She often works with Victorian photographs and other artifacts
that carry a sense of age, the better to create a world suggestive
of dreams, memories, other times and places.
