Kauai artist Doug Britt received his BA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1979, settled on the island of Kaua`i that same year and has been active on the island art scene ever since. Britt is well known for his sculpture—his assemblage/furniture works were exhibited at The Contemporary Museum’s gallery in the Alana Waikiki Hotel in 1994—but he has also always been a painter.

His paintings often involve moody nautical subjects, with a distinctive landmark like Diamond Head in the distance, and with objects floating in turbulent seas beneath an ominous sky and hovering horizon—definitely not your typical seascape.
