Duncan Anderson was born in 1969 in Albuquerque, New Mexico and raised
in Johnson City, East Tennessee, an Appalachian town he describes
as “…Evanston with a great deal of Twin Peaks mixed in.”
Johnson earned his BFA at East Tennessee State University and now
resides in Chicago, where he works as building operations manager
for the Museum of Contemporary Art. Since 2000, Anderson has exhibited
extensively in Chicago, New York, Los Angeles and Mexico City.
Anderson’s work, which encompasses both mixed-media drawing
as well as mixed-media sculpture, is based extensively on romantic
and familial relationships, history, fantasy and personal experience.
His sculptures, created from strange found objects and castoff materials
that Anderson collects, are rooted in the conceptual, but still retain
a sense of surrealist whimsy and undeniable charm.
